Milk for All

In 2006,Terry Collier, a member of the Board of Directors for HTH presented a project to the Rotary Club of Seminole. The project, “Milk For All” was to buy 15 dairy cattle, which would be pastured on the property of HTH.

The purpose was to implement a first dairy experience and improve the nutrition of meals for the children of Canchias, Santa Cruz de Yojoa; also to provide income to the villagers through their production of various dairy projects. The cost of the project was $19,000 funded by the Rotary Club of Seminole, the Rotary Club of the Pinellas Feathersound and the Rotary Club of Usuala, San Pedro, Honduras along with a matching grant from the Rotary Foundation. When the purchase was made, the Rotary Club of Usuala was able to buy 18 head of cattle instead of 15.

In 2007, Terry Collier presented a new project. The dairy project was going well, but there was no pasteurizing equipment. All the milk had to be boiled before usage. The equipment needed was: a milk pump, cream maker, machinery to coagulate milk to make cheese and pasteurizing equipment for a batch of 200 lbs. Because the equipment was in an area with no electricity, there was no need for a generator. The cost of this project was $16,375 and funded in the same way by the Rotary Clubs that participated in the “Milk For All” project.
